Today's picture was taken in Old San Juan. I loved the vibrant colors of the buildings, that lined the cobblestone walkways, in this beautiful city. I took many pictures, however, this particular photo really bothered me, as there was a garbage can centered in the frame of the photo. I contemplated deleting it from my collection, but for some reason I could not. Then it dawned on me, I was focusing on the garbage, instead of what was beautiful in this photo.
Because I chose to focus on the garbage can in this photo, I could not see beyond it. Once I decided to look at the other parts of the picture, the can became just a small part of what made up the whole. My eyes opened up to all there was; and I was able to see flowers, beautiful plants, incredible architecture, a familiar coffee shop....you get the idea.
When we focus only on what appears wrong with our lives, we spend time and energy away from what brings us joy. We all have a "garbage can" that we could spend endless amounts of time worrying about, analyzing and wishing away.
However, we have a choice. We can reframe our life picture, and see what is beautiful. This puts things in perspective, and allows you to see that no matter what is going on, there is always good to be found, blessings to be counted and love to be shared.
